Personal Statement Elementary School - 867 Words

When I was in Elementary School my parents, especially my dad preached to me to always read because your vocabulary will soon become sizable. I really did not care about reading for fun or about what my dad said. I know that it is my responsibility to read on my own but it did not help that most if not all of my friends in elementary school did not read books for a hobby. My parents tried to get me reading at a young age, but now I am starting to read a lot more than I did several years ago. I do not think that my parents, especially my dad, had a great influence on me when it comes to reading. My mom, who loved to read, never could read because me and my little brother were so involve with sports so she did not have the time to read books. Later on our lives she started to read more books because I could drive myself from and to sporting events. My dad never liked to read and he still does not read anything unless it has something to do with sports. When I was a little kid I always wanted to do what my dad did. Since he did not read book, I thought why do I have to read books. When I began to start my high school collegiate years, I started not read at all, not even the required reading assignments for my English class. My English grade started to plummet and I was in danger of failing that class. Not only was I angry at my grade, my parents were agitated by grade as well.
